About Atlassian

Life at Atlassian

We work hard to create useful products that people lust after, but we also know how to have fun.

So what exactly is it like to work and have fun at Atlassian?

A video about Atlassian's Core Values – November 2008

While seeking inspiration for something to do for our regular FedEx Days (especially since I'm not a developer), I had the idea of making a Common Craft-like video about life at Atlassian.

Alas, that turned out to be too hard (boy, those Common Craft folks are great!), so instead I put together a video about Atlassian's core values. And, rather than write a script, I just let my fellow staff explain things...

That's the voice of our VP of Engineering singing in the background — we're a multi-talented bunch. :)

Melbourne Cup at MezzaLuna – November 2008

Melbourne Cup Lunch is a long standing tradition at Atlassian, and this year it rolled around again to much cheering, champagne sipping and fine millinery. Sydney Atlassians headed out to MezzaLuna at Potts Point to enjoy the company of their workmates, the great city views and a fabulous lunch.

This year we had so many people we had to book a whole restaurant to ourselves! One of the benefits of having over 100 people in the Sydney office means that our photography hounds have increased - check out their amazing photos from the day.

Note: suits, ties and silly hats are strictly for Melbourne Cup Lunch at Atlassian.
Regular office dresscode has now resumed and is being strictly enforced - jeans, t-shirt, shoes (optional)

Trick or Treat – November 2008

Fancy your JIRA support issues being solved by Morpheus?
How about your next office event being planned by Sarah Palin?

Halloween 08.jpg

SF halls were filled with the weird and wonderful - there was a zombie princess and Harry Potter, not to mention Elton John's pimped-out cousin who stole Christmas. I mentioned it was Halloween right?

Sydney User Groups in the house – October 2008

You often hear us talking on the Atlassian blog about the Atlassian User Groups that we have coming up all around the place . Next stop on the AUG train is Amsterdam, so if you want to take a peek inside our newest office and meet other Atlassian Users then drop on by.

However what a lot of people don't realise is that our Sydney office also plays host quite frequently to a whole array of user groups that our Sydney staff are actively involved in. The Spring User Group and Sydney Extreme Programming and Agile Club swing by from time to time.

slug.pngSydney Linux User Group (SLUG) have been coming to our office every month since we moved into the Corn Exchange about 18 months ago to discuss all things linux-y. SLUG will be here tomorrow night for their monthly meeting (Friday 31st October). Mary Gardiner will be talking about how to keep your data safe, you can read more details here.

Sydney Java User Group are also regulars and a lot of our developers attend these user groups. SJUG are always on the look out for speakers. If you're interested in presenting at one of their meetings then drop them an email.

If that all sounds a bit too techy for you then come on by to the next Wiki Wednesday on 12th November. We're on the lookout for anyone interested in wikis and social software. This is a totally free event and is an opportunity to chat to a whole range of people interested in wikis. If you're a wiki groupie and want to spread the wiki love then make sure you sign up for a 5 minute round robin talk. If you plan on coming make sure you RSVP so we know how much pizza and beer to order.
See you there!

The SF Mission Party - big success! – October 2008

I hope those of you located in the Bay Area were able to come party with us last month at our San Francisco Office House Warming.

The theme of our party was "The Mission," in honor our eclectic neighborhood. It featured local flavor such as Mexican food, margaritas, and a Mariachi band. We added some exotic touches too. There was a cigarette lady circulating candy around the office, and beautiful women performing acrobatics from the ceiling! Of course we didn't leave out a game room, for those dedicated to perfecting their musical talent on Rock Band. Everyone on the Atlassian crew had a great time getting to know some of our local customers and partners.

The party was such a success that we plan to make "The Mission Party" an annual event. So if you missed this year be sure not to miss next, where we'll raise the bar and throw in some new surprises.

See you there!
